The bad dream passes


The loves that lead to nothing,
The shattered dreams, the tears!—
Old age, sickness, dying,
The terror of the years!—

Among the kindest mercies
To ease the sick heart’s sore,
Is this: the bad dream passes,
The nightmare is no more.
