BY THE SEA OF SIGHS
Yours is the face of the ages,
Timelessness looks out of your eyes,
You have gone and taken your wages
And look down at me now from the skies.
Even then long ago you knew
That the day of reckoning would come,
That the clock was ticking for you.
Your blood would freeze, your lips fall dumb.
Precious, oh most precious to me
The sad Sphinx-like smile in your eyes,
That last look of eternity
By the sea of infinite sighs.
Although ALL of Lasha’s poetry delivers some profound thought, this piece more readily conforms to my own tastes of rhyme and rhythm. I can read this and my bumpkin, poorly “educated” sensibilities are not so challenged as to tax my brain to find the feeling conveyed, and the acknowledgement of eternity. 😳🌞
“That last look of Eternity
By the sea of sighs”
What a brilliant line. Wish I had written it! 😁
Thank you for this little song poem of beautiful mood music. As Gilbert says, it’s so simple that one doesn’t need to be a university professor to appreciate it. This is straight from the heart, like a breath of fresh air.
You are too modest, Gilbert. You are no bumpkin.
You are a poet on horseback with mud on your boots! 🙂
